My personal story
I have been married to my husband for 20 years and we have been together for 25 years. He is my biggest champion and best friend. We have two amazing boys who were both adopted from birth. Thomas is 6 and Lucas is 4 years old. We struggled with infertility and through the gift of adoption we were able to have a beautiful family and I feel blessed every day to have these two angels in my life. I also have a 16- year-old dog, Sophie who completes our little family.
I was drawn to the field of psychology after having heart surgery when I was 21 years old. My heart was damaged due to years of suffering from Anorexia Nervosa and abusing laxatives. After I was in recovery from my eating disorder, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure at the young age of 21 years old. After undergoing three heart surgeries and getting a second chance at life, I made the decision to become a psychologist so I could help other people overcome eating disorders. I felt that I was given a second chance at life and I wanted to use this to help other people. I have been recovered from my eating disorder for 26 years. I understand both personally and professionally what it is like to suffer from an eating disorder. Click here to read more about eating disorders and treatment.
My husband and I suffered from infertility for years and made the decision in 2011 to pursue adoption. We underwent one painful, failed adoption, before getting our precious little Thomas in 2012. The story of how he came to us is truly a miracle and I am strong advocate for adoption completing the family you may not be able to have biologically. There is no doubt in my mind that our two precious boys were meant to be ours and having children can happen, even if it was not the way you may have first envisioned.
My new recent battle in life has come in the form of Lyme Disease. I most likely contracted Lyme but was not diagnosed till 2014, and by that time my condition was chronic. It should never take someone two years to find out why they are so sick, especially after seeking help from multiple physicians. In addition to Lyme Disease, I also have several confections (Mycoplasma, Babasia, and Epstein Bare). Just as I did after suffering from my eating disorder and infertility, I decided to take this new challenge and help others who also suffer with Lyme Disease and Chronic Illness. I love to take unfortunate things in my life, learn as much as I can, and pass this my knowledge to others to help them heal and grow. As a result, I am very passionate about helping others who suffer from Lyme Disease and other chronic health issues. Click here to read more about getting help coping with chronic illness.
I love being a psychologist and feel blessed to have a career that I wake up excited for. Now that I have expanded my business, I feel blessed to be able to have a group of wonderful women who work for me, that are smart and great at what they do, and whom I can continue to pass my knowledge along to. Training and supervision keep me passionate about the field of psychology and these girls keep me on my game to always be learning more.
I also love spending time with my husband, children, and doggie. Being out in nature and near water are my sacred places, especially the ocean. I have a passion for travel and keep trying to add new places to my list. I enjoy writing, reading, and learning new things. Meditation and yoga are what keep me on track and renew my energy to continue to help others.
